Simulating Destructive and Constructive Morphodynamic Processes in Steep Beaches

چکیده
Short-term beach morphodynamics are typically modelled solely through storm-induced erosion, disregarding post-storm recovery. Yet, the full cycle of profile response is critical to simulating and understanding over longer temporal scales. The XBeach model calibrated using topographic profiles from a reflective (Faro Beach, in S. Portugal) during after incidence fierce storm (Emma) that impacted area early 2018. Recovery all three showed rapid steepening beachface significant recovery eroded volumes (68–92%) within 45 days storm, while berm heights reached 4.5–5 m. Two calibration parameters were used (facua bermslope), considering two sets values, one for erosive (Hm0 ? 3 m) accretive < conditions. A correction runup height underestimation by surfbeat mode was necessary reproduce measured elevation morphology Simulated effectively capture but also growth gradual profiles, showing good skill phases. These experiments will be basis formulate event-scale simulations schematized wave forcing allow calibrate longer-term changes.

The morphodynamic responses of artificial embayed beaches to storm events
The morphological changes caused by storm events in two Barcelona beaches were recorded using video monitoring techniques during the period 2001–2006. Changes in shoreline position and configuration and submerged bar position and shape were analyzed during the 25 major storm events that occurred during the study period. Beach responses to storms were grouped into three categories: shoreline adv...
متن کاملPhenomenology of love: The Destructive and Constructive Nature of Love
Love, this eminent humane experience, has been explored not only by writers and poets, but also by philosophers, psychologists and even experimental scientists. This paper aims to discuss a novel aspect in phenomenology of love, as the concept of destructive and constructive nature of love, which is to the best of our knowledge, presented for the first time. The fundamental idea of this paper w...
متن کاملNon-Destructive and Partially Destructive Determination of Residual Stress States with Steep Subsurface Gradients
X-ray residual stress analysis is a well established tool for the determination of nearsurface residual stress states. If a homogeneous, macroscopically isotropic polycrystalline material is investigated using the well established standard methods of X-ray residual stress analysis like the sin21C,-method [l], the DSlle-Hauk-method [2], or the q-integral method [3] which are summarized and syste...
متن کاملInstability and Irrationality: Destructive and Constructive Services within Intelligent Environments
Does chance have a role in intelligent environments? In this work-inprogress paper we argue that chance and non-deterministic behaviour can play a fundamental and important role in intelligent environments. We discuss how this behaviour can be both destructive and constructive. Underpinning our ideas is the view that intelligent environments may be seen as a complex system of interacting servic...
